Is Soda Bad?
Both sugary, diet drinks correlated with accelerated brain aging
To me soda consumption is an interesting thing. From the flavors, to the ingredients, and the fascination and loyalty consumers have – Coke or Pepsi anyone? We all know soda is not going to help our health, but we Americans LOVE our soda pop! Knowing that excess sugar is bad for us, many Americans are switching to diet soda, but is that really any better?
I knew study is finding out the real risk in soda consumption, and it seems that both versions are bad for us. The sugary version (and by the way, this is ALL sugary drinks, like sweet teas and sweetened juices too) leads to cognitive decline – like dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, poor memory, and actual brain shrinkage! You would think the diet version would be better, but it wasn’t. The study showed that people who drank diet soda daily had three times the risk to develop stroke and dementia when compared to those who did not.
I have to say, I agree with on of the lead researchers on this, we need to get used to drinking just plain old water!
